Living in Arizona, you would think that I would have a beautiful and dark tan. But in all honesty, after I worked for a dermatologist and learned a lot about different types of skin cancer and the harm that sun damage can have on your skin, I find myself always hiding from the sun and looking pale like a vampire lol!
I have tried many sunless tanning lotions found at the drugstore/online stores and sad to say, you get what you pay for. I had applications where it left my skin orange, patchy and uneven. Another thing that I hate about self tanners is the sticky feeling. Since I am a stay at home mom and am in constant contact with my toddler and infant, I hated having self tanner on me which would make me self-conscious or paranoid about having anything touching my children’s skin while I got some color to my skin. But my last visit to the manicurist who stated that I was very pale made me feel a little embarrassed. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with being light skinned or pale but when you have a nice color to your upper torso and arms but white as a ghost from waist down, it can make a person a bit self-conscious.
I was sent the WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone for review purposes which was great because it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time 🙂 I was ready to give self tanning another try. As I was reading more about this product, I was surprised to find out that this product was not like my other tanning lotions on the market. First off, I will mention that this product is aloe, hemp, gluten and paraben free and not tested on animals. Now imagine a tanning lotion which also has anti-aging properties to it! Yes, WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone includes organic anti-aging antioxidants in its ingredients which help protect skin’s health and promote a youthful glow to your skin while giving your skin some color without the hazards of any sun damage.
Lets have a discussion about the ingredients a little bit more. Most self tanners on the market only have vitamin E in it which is beneficial to the skin’s health. While vitamin E is good for the skin, WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone takes it a step further and includes ingredients such as grape seed extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Japanese green tea and white tea, and natural DHA. Grape seed extract provides your skin with over 20 times more antioxidant power than vitamin E which is said to improve collagen while keeping your skin firm, hydrated and toned. The Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid and it has a much lower molecular size which gives the ability to penetrate skin when applied topically. Sodium Hyaluronate provides your skin with hydration while improving its elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. If you have been following my journey on my blog, you will know my love and obsession that I have with Hyaluronic Acid in my skin care regemin so the fact that this self tanner had this an one of the key ingredients had my heart skipping a beat. To read further on the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid click here. Adding a blend of Japanese green tea and white tea extracts to the ingredients of this tanning silicone provides your skin with protection from harmful free radicals. And the natural DHA and erythrulose bronzers offers this tanning silicone and its users a more even, long lasting, natural color tan while making sure your skin is hydrated. WOW!!!! The ingredients alone got me excited to test this baby out.
When applying the WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone, it reminded me of the formula and scent of vanilla like the tanning lotions I used to apply when I used to go tanning at the tanning beds. This product states that it can be used anywhere, meaning you can use this as your tanning lotion in a salon/spa, at home for a quick self tanning session or at the beach/pool while getting some sun. While applying the non-irritating silicone formula, I loved seeing that it wasn’t sticky and dried fairly fast as I don’t have time to lounge around with 2 kids. I rubbed it in and left it on with high anticipation for 8 hours. The results…… BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Below is a before and after picture of my right leg using WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone. What I loved about this formula is that it didn’t leave any streaks when giving my skin some color. Also, it wasn’t an orange/brown tone but rather a more olive tan which coincided with my natural skin tone. I even scored a compliment from my husband about my color of my legs which to me is a big plus 😉
With my picture above, I was afraid that the lighting would be different so I tested this product by putting it on half of my arm (yes, I looked funny with 2 tones but I felt it would help out visually for blog purposes to do so). The picture below is to show you how much color I got by using the WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone. If you want to go darker, it is suggested to wait 48 hours and reapply for an even darker result. Now the lasting effects of the WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone ranges from 5-10 days. Mine lasted about 10 days before returning back to its original color. And as it was fading, it faded gradually and evenly and didn’t leave my skin looking patchy. The key to using this product is making sure you exfoliate your skin prior to application applying it to clean skin and keeping it hydrated after you washed off the product. I’m excited that I got the chance to try and review this product because it will be a staple for me since I live in the sunny state and on the plus side, I am excited to see the long term benefits this tanning silicone will have on my skin.
This product retails for $89.98 for 200 ml / 6.8 oz of product and $8.50 for 15ml / 0.5 oz single use packet. Visit their site WayTooTan Dark Hybrid Tanning Silicone for further information and sales details. 🙂
